Substance Abuse in Men in the U.S. (2025 Data)
- 1 in 6 Americans aged 12+ has a substance use disorder (SUD). Men are more affected than women.
- Alcohol Use Disorder (AUD) affects ~12 % of men vs. 8 % of women
- Overdose deaths remain high: provisional data for 2025 show ~72,000 deaths, with men dying at roughly 2–3 times the rate of women.
- Trends: Alcohol and marijuana use remain common; opioid and stimulant misuse are slightly declining.
- Despite high prevalence, fewer than 10 % of people with SUD receive treatment each year.
